Hobart Shuttle Bus Company · 4 Elizabeth St, Hobart

Up the mountain, then the city

A guided bus to the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington with about 30 minutes at the top, then a 48-hour ticket for Hobart's open-top city loop. Pick it to add the mountain to a Mona trip that does not already include it.

kunanyi / Mt Wellington and City Combo

About this experience

Two tours on one ticket. First the kunanyi / Mt Wellington Explorer Bus from 4 Elizabeth St climbs to the summit, 1,270 metres above sea level per the listing. It is a 2-hour return trip with about 30 minutes at the top for the observation shelter and the lookouts over Hobart and southern Tasmania. A local driver guide gives a live commentary in English, with audio in 7 more languages, and the group is up to 29 people.

Back in town, the second half starts: the official Red Decker open-top city loop, 90 minutes round, with 20 stops. That ticket is valid for 48 hours. Time at Mona: none, neither bus goes to Berriedale. Where this fits is the gap. The Mt Wellington and Mona day trip already takes you up the mountain, so you would not need both. If your Mona day is Mona like a rockstar, or the ferry on your own, this is the easy way to get the summit in.

Food and drink are not included, and neither is entry to the places on the city loop, per the listing. Bring warm clothes, even in summer: the listing asks for them, and Wellington Park says Pinnacle Road can close in snow, ice or severe weather. If it does on your date, ask the operator what they offer. The listing marks the tour as wheelchair accessible.

Tips before you book

  • Pack what the listing asks for: warm clothing, a hat, sunscreen, water and comfortable shoes.
  • Ride the city loop again the next day: the 48-hour ticket covers it, and Ed, quoted above, did the loop twice.
  • Use the city bus on your Mona day: the loop stops at Brooke Street Pier, where the ferry leaves. Our getting to Mona guide has the other ways there.
  • Wellington Park lists the summit shelter as open 8am to 8pm in summer and 8am to 4.30pm in winter.
  • Pair it with Mona like a rockstar on another day for a mountain morning and a long lunch at Faro.
