Booking choice: The Mt Wellington and Mona day trip, from $98 per person. Check dates Tour details
Prices below come from Mona's visit, tickets and FAQ pages and its two experience pages, checked on 6 November 2026. Official prices are in Australian dollars. Tour prices are GetYourGuide's from-prices in US dollars, and they move with the date and the season.
The short version: a day at Mona costs more than the door price once you add the ferry, and that is where a tour starts to make sense.
The quick answer
From 22 October 2026, Mona entry costs A$45 for adults, A$39 concession and A$21 for ages 12 to 17; under 12s are free. Tasmanian residents get in free but still need a ticket and photo ID with a Tasmanian address. Most advance bookings carry a A$3.50 fee, and the ferry is extra, from A$32 return. The tours on this site include Mona entry with the ferry or a car, from $98 in USD.
How much is Mona entry in 2026?
A$45 for an adult, A$39 concession and A$21 for ages 12 to 17, from 22 October 2026. Children under 12 are free, and so are Tasmanians.
Entry covers what Mona calls “our general collection and the farthest reaches of David's lounge room”. That means three floors underground, B1 to B3, cut into the sandstone of the Berriedale peninsula, and Phrontisterion, the new library that opened in 2026. You carry the O, Mona's free app, instead of reading wall labels. Some works need a separate ticket.
Concession, on Mona's visit page, means healthcare, pension, senior, student and concession travel cards, and staff ask for ID at the door. Kids aged 4 to 11 need no proof of age. Mona adds that some art may be confronting or not suitable for kids, so check the O for content notes.
| Ticket | Visitors | Tasmanians |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | A$45 | Free, with a ticket and photo ID with a Tasmanian address |
| Concession (healthcare, pension, senior, student and concession travel cards) | A$39 | Free |
| Ages 12 to 17 | A$21 | Free |
| Ages 4 to 11 | Free | Free |
| Under 4 | Free | Free |
| Booking fee | A$3.50 on most advance bookings | None if your cart holds only free local tickets |

When did Mona's prices go up, and is there a booking fee?
The new prices started on 22 October 2026, per a notice on Mona's visit page. A A$3.50 transaction fee applies to most advance bookings, with some exclusions.
Some travel listings still show an older price range. Go by Mona's own ticket page, which has the current figures. The fee is skipped for locals whose cart holds only free entry tickets.
Booking is recommended, Mona says, because entry is by timed ticket and slots are limited. Your ticket gets you in within the hour printed on it. A wildcard ticket has no set time: you turn up and join the queue. Tickets are mobile, so there is nothing to print, and Mona can move your date if there is space when you contact its Bookings and Enquiries team ahead of time.
Mona entry, the return ferry and the O, plus kunanyi / Mount Wellington with a guide in the morning.
Check dates for the Mt Wellington and Mona day tripWho gets into Mona for free?
Tasmanian residents of any age, and every child under 12. Locals still need to book a ticket.
Mona accepts photo ID with a Tasmanian address, or a Tasmanian utility bill with photo ID. The free local ticket secures your arrival time, and there is no booking fee if that is all you buy. Mona has offered free entry to Tasmanians since it brought in a fee for interstate and overseas visitors in 2011.
Companion Card holders book through Mona's Bookings and Enquiries or show the card at the box office. Beyond concession, kids, locals and the Companion Card, Mona publishes no discount codes, so go by its ticket page.

How much do the Mona ferry and entry cost together?
From A$77 for one adult: A$45 entry plus a ferry ticket from A$32, which covers the return trip. The A$3.50 booking fee comes on top.
The ferry and the museum are separate tickets, even in the Posh Pit, the ferry's private lounge with drinks and small food. A ferry ticket from Brooke Street Pier costs the same one way or return, there are no ferry concessions, and children under 4 ride free with a ticket. The trip takes about 30 minutes each way, up the Derwent to Mona's own jetty.
Add-ons are where a day grows. Event Horizon by James Turrell is A$12 for 10 minutes, and a tasting at the Moorilla Cellar Door is A$20. Mona is cashless and does not allow BYO food or drink, so lunch is on site: The Source and the Void Bar run Thursday to Monday, Faro Friday to Monday. More on the boat in our Mona ferry guide.
